Western Sahara: General Assembly Reaffirms the Right of the Saharawi People to Self-Determination

New York — The General Assembly of the United Nations on Tuesday adopted a resolution unanimously supporting the negotiation process in order to achieve a just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution that lead to self-determination of the people of Western Sahara.

It also commends the efforts made in this regard by the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, inviting the parties to cooperate with the International Committee of the Red Cross and to fulfill their obligations under international humanitarian law.

Finally, it requests the fourth Committee to continue to monitor the situation in Western Sahara and to submit a report on this issue at its sixty-eighth session.
