South Africa: Statement From the ANC 53rd Electoral Commission

press release

The voting for the selection of the National Executive Committee of the African National Conference at its 53rd conference, held in Bloemfontein proceeded well notwithstanding the delay which was as a result of an omission of one candidate; a name that was incorrectly spelt and a name that was printed twice on the ballot paper. These issues were brought to the attention of the Electoral Commission by the voting delegates.

The ballot paper was corrected, reprinted and voting commenced shortly after the Commission had been informed. Fortunately the majority of the voting delegates who had initially cast their vote on the initial ballot paper returned. The speed at which the Commission addressed the issues did not significantly delay the process.
