The archeological city of Luxor will be watching the sun illuminating the holy of holies in God Amon Temple in Karnak on Friday 21/12/2012 morning, its one of 4500 astronomical phenomena of Pharaonic Egypt throughout the ages.
Luxor Governor Ezzat Saad said the event emphasizes that ancient Egyptians have been the trailblazers of astronomy worldwide.
"The city is keen on propagating such events on the hope that the tourist sector in Luxor would overcome its current plight," said Saad.
Archeologist Mansour Brek said the six-minute solar illumination of the God Amon Temple's sanctum sanctorum coincides with the beginning of the winter season for ancient Egyptians, corresponding with December 22 every year.
