Part of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos was on Thursday gutted by fire.
According to an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, the fire emanated from some cables, which apparently melted under heat, as some welders were working at the extension of 'D' Wing of the international airport.
It was learnt that airport officials in an attempt to save the situation swiftly cut off power supply to the arrival and departure halls.
Mr Yakubu Dati, General Manager, Corporate Communications, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said that prompt intervention of the fire service attached to the airport immediately brought the fire under control.
"There were no casualty. The only fallout of the incident was the switching off of the power source which has since been restored.
"Normal activities at the airport which were not interrupted by the fire have continued as planes are taking off and landing without hitches.

That our International Airport at Ikeja,Lagos is graced with the name of a monster and a psychopathic mass murderer,Murtala Muhammed brought with it a curse upon it.A couple of years ago,Chief Obasabjo narrowly escaped being mauled to death by a desperate and deranged individual at Ikeja Airport.Indeed it is cursed because it graces the name of a monster who committed a harrowing and heinous crimes against humankind. It is about time the name of a great son of Oduduwa,a galant and a heroic soldier,Brigadier Francis Adekunle graces that Airport and to bless it. That late galant soldier,gentleman and a devout Christian was assassinated by a Jukun bandit,Theophilus Danjuma, the Pol Pot of Nigeria and his monster pal,Murtala Muhammed because he dared try to protect his boss who was then his guest;Major General Aguiyi Ironsi,the Head of State and Commander in Chief of Nigerian Armed Forces. Brigadier Francis A.Fajuyi was indeed a hero among the greatest heros of our nation.Nigerians must immortalize this galant soldier now.
