Nigeria: SA 2013 - FG Denies Cup Mandate to Eagles

The Sports Minister and the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Bolaji Abdulahi, has denied that at no point did the a mandate emanate from the federal government, making it conditional for the Super Eagles to win the Africa Cup of Nations early next year in South Africa.

It would be recalled that the Director General of the NSC, Chief Patrick Ekeji, had at the Award Night of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Abuja Chapter, in October, issued an ultimatum on behalf of the federal government to the Eagles, stating that victory in South Africa is not negotiable.

But Abdullahi insisted that no such mandate was ever issued as government would not place an undue pressure on the team in South Africa.
