A film producer and proprietor of God Gift Film Production has spoken of the potentials of The Gambia's movie industry, stressing that the nation is blessed with talented actors and actresses who can contribute a lot to the development of the country if they are further empowered.
Onyeka Okechukwu, who has produced different home movies in The Gambia, was speaking recently during the formation of God Gift Actor and Actress Club at the Officers Mess in Kotu. He said it is necessary to expose Gambian actors and actresses in order to help them attain stardom like their counterparts in the sub-region. His words: "If the Gambian actors and actresses are given the publicity and maximum support like other movie entertainers from the neighbouring countries, they too will line up among the celebrities."
Okechukwu said the group of artistes in the country is finding it very difficult to make it nationally due to lack of support in their home country. "The promotion is not an easy task for the marketers, producers and even the artistes themselves, but if it is done, it will help and encourage us to go professional. This will enable artistes to measure up with their colleagues in other countries, especially the Anglophone countries and Senegal where almost the same cultures are shared," he further stated.
The film producer who has produced and directed a number of Gambian and Nigeria movies, said it is time the actors and actresses move forward and showcase their rich talent.
