Africa: Suzanna Signs Africa-Wide Publishing Contract

South African based publishing firm, Sheer Publishing have signed a sub-publishing contract with Kenyan Afro=fusion singer Suzanna Owiyo.

The company provides a comprehensive range of copyright services, in a friendly, efficient and accessible way to it clientele that includes Cameroon stars Zangalawe known for their hit Waka Waka and Eric Wainaina.

Suzanna told Word Is, "I signed a sub-publishing contract with them. It is not a bad move as an artiste because you cannot handle everything. Now I can rest easy knowning that someone is checking out for who is playing my music.

"Beside there are other deals that come into play with the contract. If movie companies want to use my music as a soundtrack the company can facilitate that. In Africa when it comes to our music, most international labels have shied away because there are no proper structures in place to safeguard our work. so, I'm optimistic about this deal."

The publishing house run by David Alexander, Mark Connor and Damon Forbes have been in contact with Suzanna for five years but Suzanna signed up with them at the Kenya Music week held early this month.

According to the company's website, Forbes and Alexander believe implicitly that enthusiasm for the music is not enough. Forbes said, "Damon and I believe that it's not just a passion for the music but for the people and the country and we want to stay here and make it work. We reinvest into South Africa with excellent content; with everything we produce. It's something we believe we have to do and hopefully in the long term the return will be even better."
