Kenya: State to Release Sh10 Billion CDF

THE government will release the Constituency Development Fund arrears amounting to Sh10.8 billion before the end of the year. This will facilitate the completion of development projects initiated by MPs before their term expires.

Finance minister Njeru Githae bowed to pressure from MPs yesterday and promised to release the funds. The government ordered all CDF management committee not to proceed on leave after March 4 to ensure the funds are fully utilised.

Githae asked MPs to ensure the funds are properly utilised to ensure that all projects are completed before the general election. However, MPs argued that the funds should not be released on December 31 and their accounts frozen January 14, when their term expires.
