Libya: Islamists Attack Benghazi Police Post

At least three people were killed and another ten injured in Benghazi on Thursday (December 20th) when armed Islamists laid siege to a Benghazi police station, AFP reported.

"An armed group attacked the police headquarters in Benghazi trying to free suspects who were arrested a few days ago," a security official said. "The army intervened to defend the building. Five policemen were wounded and a resident of the neighbourhood was killed."

A man was arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder of Benghazi police chief Faraj Drissi, Libya Herald reported.

The incident was just the latest in a series of assaults against security institutions across the city, with many pinning the blame on radical Islamists.
