Nigeria: NUJ Suspends Abia Journalists

The national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has placed four journalists in Abia State on indefinite suspension following their "persistent anti-union activities." Those affected by the clampdown include Emmanuel Acha, a reporter with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Anayo Okoli, Vanguard Correspondent in Abia, Obinna Ibe of Insider Magazine and George Opara, Abia State correspondent of National Mirror.

In a letter dated December 18, 2012, entitled Re: Indefinite Suspension from the NUJ," the National Secretary, Shu'aibu Usman Leman, said the four journalists were sanctioned by the National Executive Council (NEC) "after a careful deliberation of your unethical conduct."
