Nigeria: Excitement As Author Launches Puzzle Book, Albums

It was fun in Abuja at the Launching of 'Word and Number Puzzle' book as well as two gospel albums written by Princess Emana Okon; a doctoral student of Instructional Technology, University of Houston, USA. CHIKA OKEKE writes that the event was well attended by both parents and children.

The 64 page word and number puzzle reader has a glossy paper back that showcases the readiness of children who were assisted by their parents to solve word and number puzzles.

Published by the author's publishing company; Emana Communications Nigeria Limited, it's a must read for every child teenager and even adults because it contains new words that may not be familiar in everyday usage of English language both written and spoken.

The two gospel albums also contain about 18 tracks with soul lifting songs.

Puzzle Book, Songs: Means of Learning And Entertainment

The Group General Manager Strategy and Planning of NNPC who is also the husband of the author, Dr Timothy Okon, described the book and songs as instructional materials saying that they came as a result of divine inspiration.

Okon who is also the Chairman of the occasion said, "The book is a means of entertaining and educating ourselves on things within our immediate environment.

"Both the book and albums are her original works. The songs were given to us as a people of faith with understanding that we are called to be of service to God and humanity.

Describing the author, he added, "My wife and I have had a remarkable journey and exposure since our marriage. I have observed how she applied herself diligently to the things that I never imagined she could do, so I publicly acknowledge that she has been a pillar behind the success of our family.

Book Helps Enhance Vocabulary Usage

The book reviewer, Dr Inyang Ukot who is also a medical practitioner and author of medical book on teenage and children's books noted that the book would help to improve the vocabulary of the readers since it contains uncommon words that are not used in our day-to-day communication.

"The puzzle book enables people to read because there are some stories that are associated with the puzzles. It contains fifteen chapters and each chapter comes in form of a grid that has words written across or vertically up and down.

"The person who will benefit immensely by reading the book will need a dictionary by the side because it contains words that may not be very common, so it's impossible for any reader to go through the book without learning new words.

On advice for aspiring writers, he said, "They have to be diligent and create time for the book. There are so many books that are uncompleted just like uncompleted buildings that will not add value to mankind. Instead of trying to write four uncompleted books, we will encourage them to start with one and continue even if it takes months and years to finish.

Why The Book, Musical Albums

At a time when some writers are busy on works of fiction, Princess Emana Okon received an inspiration by the Holy spirit to write word puzzles, she said, "The book came as a result of a divine inspiration that I received in 2007 after having prayed to God asking for the mystery of the raffia (at that time, I had and still has a stock of raffia materials that I was trying to turn into attractive and marketable goods. I instantly received a divine coaching to make special word puzzles because the words were so amazing.

"Also, I noticed that I write a lot because I have backlog of unpublished works but this is my first published work. I also discovered that there is a story behind the puzzle book, so that's why the puzzle book is a combination of both puzzles and stories.

"This puzzle are for all reading ages as long as somebody is literate and numerate, they can play the puzzle. At the moment, I think I should write more because I actually have a lot of the puzzles that I want to convert into a book and probably put them online.

Mrs Emana who is also a gospel artist added, "I never looked at myself as a gospel artist and never imagined I could be thrusted in the area of gospel music but the kind of songs that I have been receiving by inspiration are so overwhelming in quantity that I just wondered if one can have such in a lifetime. The question that pricks my mind is whether I can produce all the songs or I should start feeding them out to other artists.

She continued, "In 2010, I started preparing the songs in the form of an album. At the moment, I have four albums that are ready to hit the market.
