Zambia: Pledge to Support All Sporting Disciplines

GOVERNMENT has pledged to support all sporting disciplines and encourage sports development through implementation of effective policies for sports in all schools.

Education Minister John Phiri, in a speech read for him by his deputy Patrick Ngoma at the official closing of the All Africa Schools Badminton championship at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka, said Government would endeavour to support all sports disciplines.

The minister said that Government was aware of the limited sports infrastructure in many schools around the country but that it would put up sports infrastructure in the new schools that had been constructed in all provinces.

Phiri said this demonstrated Government's willingness to develop sports at all levels in the country.

He, however, urged Badminton Zambia (BZ) to work hard by aiming at taking the sport to

all schools across the country to ensure growth of the game and not only concentrate along the line of rail.
