Gambia: Real De Banjul Win GFA Super Cup

The league Champions Real de Banjul are the champions of the 2012/2013 GFA Super Cup after they narrowly defeated FA Cup holders Gamtel by a lone goal, at the Independence Stadium in Bakau yesterday.

Attended by Alieu K. Jammeh, minister of Youth and Sports; Alhaji Omar Sey, vice chairman and spokesperson of the GFA Normalization Committee; Lucio Mancini, head coach of Gambia national team; Momodou Sabally, director of Budgeting at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs; and Honorable Alhagie Sillah of Banjul North constituency amongst others, saw Real de Banjul score the lone goal of the match in the 65th minute of the game courtesy of a wonderful header by Buba Sanneh, through a corner-kick.

Dressed in their blue jerseys, the Telecommunication boys who won the super cup in 2011 could have equalised and possibly retain their title, but failed to capitalise on the numerous chances that came their way. Real de Banjul went home with a giant trophy and a cheque for D50, 000.

Meanwhile, Real de Banjul and Gamtel are preparing to participate in the CAF champions league and confederation cup respectively.
