Egypt Army Not Party to Conflict - Defence Minister

Egypt's Defence Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Monday that the armed forces practice their duties in complete impartiality without intervening in any political practices.

"The Military Institution is only concerned for the Egyptian people," Sisi said during a meeting with armed forces leaders.

Sisi stressed that the armed forces are not a party to any political conflict as they are conscious how that can risk national security and internal stability, reported the state news agency.

"The military is the true sponsor of Egypt's security," Sisi added.

He thanked army officers who participated in securing the referendum process saying "the role of armed forces during the referendum feeds the relationship between the people and their armed forces."
