Gambia's Youngest Drummer Releases First Album

Musa Fili Jobarteh, Gambia's youngest drum and percurssionist player released his first album called "Ala Tentu" at a ceremony held in Alliance Franco Gambienne on Friday.

The 13 year old boy showed the crowd at Alliance Franco that when it comes to drums his age does not matter. Musa played with lot of well known musicians in the Gambia and he backs them with the drums. Musa at the moment is even providing drumming lessons to people who are interested to become good drummers.

At the launching Musa could be seen "playing" with two drums whilst his band members were behind him with other instruments.

The show was well attended almost full to capacity with people who came to see Musa. Many however were interested to see how the lad can handle so many drums at the same time considering his age.

When the show was on going, the presence of Buba Ayi Sanneh, the National Assembly Member for Kombo Central was announced, apparently invited to the stage to give some remarks.

" I am very happy about Musa and that I'm also glad that he came from my town Brikama. It is really impressive to see all of you here today to support Musa. This is what we want and what he is doing here today is part of National development. We all need to do our quota to national development. My doors shall be always open for him in case he wants me to assist in anything. Once again I'm happy to be associated with his album launching and am glad all of you are here to support it"

At this stage, honourable Buba Ayi Sanneh said he would buy the copy of the album for D1000 even though the album is D150 for his support for Musa.

After the ceremony, this reporter caught up with Musa's father Mr Ebrima Jobarteh for a brief interview.

Mr Joberteh who looks visibly excited told this reporter that the album launch is successful.

He said many bands turned up to perform at the show which he really appreciates and Musa's performance was excellent. He said the album is costing D150 and one can get it at either Alliance or Kerewan sounds. The father was quick to tell reporters that Musa is working on another album and will now release an album every year. He thanked Mr Haruna Drammeh for sponsoring the album.

" Musa is still going to school and he is in grade 5 and also he gives drumming lessons to various schools here among them is Marena international. Any one who wants to know more about Musa can contact me because am the father and also the manager on telephone number 9932194".Mr Ebrima T. Bojang contributed in this story.
