Gambia: Gamtel Disposed of Super Cup Trophy

Gamtel failed to defend their Super Cup title yesterday losing 1-0 to league defending champions Real De Banjul at the Independence stadium.

A Buba Sanneh's 65th minute header ultimately proved decisive for the 2011/2012 domestic title winners.

Gamtel defenders had adjudged a supposed foul on goalkeeper Musa Camara after a mid-air challenge with Buba Sanneh whose diving header found the back of the net. But a disinterested referee ruled for a goal instead.

Striker Assan Ceesay had come close to racing his side in the driving seat but had his left-footed blast from the edge of the box meticulously palmed off by a steady Real De Banjul goalkeeper from edge of the box.

Real's Lamin Jallow hit back beating past his marker from the left with the advancing goalkeeper to beat but to the disapproval of a poor spectator turn out and against all expectations in the box, Jallow had his effort smacked off and over the crossbar.

In a last-gasp venture as desperation looms in, ex-Brikama goal poacher Foday Trawally joined the fray for Gamtel as the search for an equaliser for the Telecommunications giants intensified.

Recruited to slice off the goal scoring burden off Assan Ceesay's shoulders and filling the void created by Ali Sowe's transfer, Coach Tapha Manneh had all his hopes on Trawally and Hamang Conteh but Alagie Jobe kept his side' nose in front to end of time.
