Uganda: 11 Christmas Babies At Mengo Hospital, More Expected

"I have missed celebrating Christmas with my friends and family but I have got a great gift in Noeline," Hilda Apolot smiled as she cuddled her new born daughter, one of the 11 that had been born at Mengo Hospital on Christmas day by 2pm.

"It is a dream comes true, I just did not expect to give birth on Christmas day but it was God's plan. I will have a reason of celebrating a birthday," she added from the Anne Walker's ward.

She was one of the parents who had given birth to Christmas babies at the hospital found less than half a kilometre west of Kampala.

In total 7 boys and 4 girls had been born and nurses expected more to be born.

"The ward is full, we still have over 20 expecting and we believe that they will also give birth to their loved ones before midnight," said Rehema Namutebi, the enrolled midwife on duty.

Namutebi, who was in charge at the Mpereza ward said that four were normal deliveries and had already left the country.

One of the mothers had given birth to twins but unfortunately, one had passed away.

"But I am grateful to the Lord that I still have Wasswa present. It was his plan," said Amina Nakeya from Mutundwe as she breastfed her baby.

Another one, Florence Nsimiire from Nabulagala was still waiting for the father, Fred Ikoba, to give the baby boy a name.

"I thank God for giving me a good baby. He has no name but he is lovely," she said as her sister took care of her.
