Tanzania: Police Ban Youth Discos

THE Dar es Salaam Police Special Zone has banned discos for children, popularly known as 'toto discos,' during the festive season because most halls are not safe for them.

The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Suleiman Kova, told a press conference in Dar es Salaam that children had frequently suffered from suffocation while in the discos.

Mr Kova advised parents that they should not let their children to such gatherings because police have prohibited them for security reasons. He further advised parents to escort their children while visiting different beaches in order to assure their safety.

Commander Kova also urged people to respect laws and to be vigilant throughout the season. "The Police force in Dar es Salaam is requesting the general public to collaborate with law enforcement officers and avoid committing crimes," he said.

Mr Kova added that the police will beef up security throughout the season by strengthening patrol by using vehicles, motorcycles, choppers and marine vessels.
