Tanzania: Woman Abandons Toddler in Mwanza

Mwanza — NYAKABUNGO Suburb resident in Mwanza City is looking for a mother who abandoned a month-old infant in her house.

The resident who identified herself as Mama Rhobi told the 'Daily News' that the woman discarded the kid and later on ran away to unknown destination. Until Monday, the police had not established her whereabouts.

"I am unable to take care of this child because I am poor. Such children need extra care including milk and clothes", she lamented. According to some eye witnesses at Nyakabungo suburb, the mother of the infant left a message to Mama Rhobi, saying that it was not her intention to abandon the child, but she was forced to commit that office after her husband abandoned her for a long time.

"To help you take care of this infant, I have left you a bag that has some clothes and herbal medicines. When the boy cried, give him that medicine he will stop crying," the message read in part.

The Nyakabungo area leader identified by one name as Mama John said that such a cruelty was unacceptable and she advised Mama Rhobi to report the case at the nearby police station.
