Eritrea: Farmers in Dige Sub-Zone Called Upon to Raise Output

Dige — The Administration of Dige sub-zone called on fruits and vegetables farmers in the locality to strengthen integrated efforts so as to boost production. It made the call at a recent meeting conducted with the farmers.

Mr. Hintsaab Woldu, head of economic development in the locality, indicated that there exist 183 fruits and vegetables farms on a total of 2,100 hectares. He further advised the farmers to promote synergy and personal attitude towards consultation with experts. Mr. Dawit Berhane, head of the Agriculture Ministry's branch in the sub-zone, on his part said that the locality is endowed with remarkable potential for horticultural production, and disclosed that the farmers are due to begin working as an Association as of the beginning of 2013.

Moreover, the participants of the meeting put forth views regarding various issues.

Mr. Saleh Haji, Administrator of the locality, similarly called on the farmers to strive to meet demand in the local markets and ensure new job opportunities.
