Eritrea: Potable Water Supply Facilities Put in Place

Asmara — The Ministry of Land, Water and Environment indicated that potable water supply facilities have been put in place in 26 villages in the year 2012 in collaboration with stakeholders and popular participation, while implementation of 16 others is underway. It further pointed out that the potable water supply facilities comprise reservoirs, distribution stations and pipelines, and that 20 of them utilize solar energy, while the rest 6 are electricity generator-powered.

The Ministry also lauded the financial and labor input made by the communities in the putting in place of the facilities, and called for regional Administrations to enhance their role in facilitating the implementation of the ongoing projects vis-à-vis follow-up and maintenance of those already functional.

Reports also indicated that the Ministry would launch 16 potable water projects in 2013.
