Nigeria: One Feared Dead, 40 Injured As Fire Razes Eight Buildings in Lagos

Lagos — At least, one person has been reported dead and forty others sustained injuries from a fire outbreak in the Jankara area of Lagos Wednesday.

The fire believed to have emanated from a fire cracker warehouse storing fireworks spread to at least eight buildings in the crowded area. According to a rescue worker, over 30 people had been treated for injuries.

"We have treated up to 30 people so far," Red Cross worker, Nicolas Adesile told reporters at the scene, adding that there had not been any reports of deaths. But unconfirmed report said one person was reported dead from the fire outbreak.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency in Lagos, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, while confirming the incident, said the massive fire gutted eight houses and injured forty people.

He also said the army, navy and airforce had joined in putting out the fire.
