Thursday, December 20, 2012, seems to have brought peace back to the Addis Abeba Chamber of Commerce & Sectoral Association (AACCSA).
The voluntary private sector organisation of the capital city undertook its eighth regular general meeting under the leadership of Ayalew Zegeye. In what seems to be the calmest general meeting in recent years, the Chamber has discussed its performance and planned activities, including; construction of its headquarters and a convention centre, establishment of a corporate governance centre and realisation of aggressive advocacy through radio programmes.
The meeting of the organisation that has about 10,000 members has, however, seen a participation of only 571 members. This, indeed, has been one frontier for a disenchantment of some members who see the attendance as far lower than what the establishment proclamation sees as adequate to make binding decisions.
With this controversy largely underground, nevertheless, Mayor Kuma Demekssa of Addis Abeba seems to have found a right reason to share a favourable gaze, albeit mayoral, with Ayalew.
