Sudan: Retired Employees - No Pension for Five Years

El-Daein — Retired employees of the water supply corporation of East Darfur declared not having received their pension for five years now, Radio Dabanga has learned on Tuesday, 25 December.

The representative of the pensioners, Sabeel Ismail, said that more than 60 former staff members who worked at the localities of El- Daein, Abukarinca, Adila, Abujabrah, Alfirdos, Abumatariq and Assalaya, have not received any compensation since 2008.

Ismail told Radio Dabanga they have complained "several times" about the situation to official authorities and to the pension commission.

However, the workers were told their compensation could not be settled as the pension fund has failed to receive 340 million Sudanese pounds, according to Ismail.

The pensioners representative said the retired staff is currently facing "livelihood and health hardships" as a result, and asked the El-Daein water corporation to expedite the payment.
