Zambia: Nevers, 7 Others Appear in Court

MMD president Nevers Mumba with seven others yesterday appeared before a Kitwe magistrate court for mention for an offence of unlawful assembly.

Mumba and others appeared before Principal Resident Magistrate Penjani Lamba around 09:30 hours. Ms Lamba adjourned the matter to January 29, next year for commencement of trial.

Two weeks ago, Mumba and others were arrested in Kalulushi and charged with unlawful assembly, contrary to Section 75 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Others arrested with Mumba, 52, are MMD Members of Parliament Howard Kunda, 37, (Muchinga), Michael Katambo, 43 (Masaiti), Anne Chungu, 55 (Lufwanyama) and James Chishiba (Kafulafuta).

The rest are MMD deputy national secretary Chembe Nyangu, 57, MMD Copperbelt women's chairperson Edith Mataka Nkhoma, 59 and 53-year-old Greenford Kalinda.
