WRANGLES have deepened in the Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW) with Ndola District chairperson Chungu Chitambo suing the organisation for alleged attempts to suspend him from the union.
Mr Chitambo has also filed for an injunction in the Industrial Relations court to restrain ZUFIAW general secretary Joyce Nonde-Simukoko from occupying her position contending that she had reached retirement age.
He said in an affidavit for an interim injunction dated December 14, the union leadership inexplicably threatened to suspend him after he c
onvened a gathering which was aimed at addressing serious issues that were likely to destabilise the union.
He said Ms Simukoko was not entitled to occupy her current position because she had attained the retirement age.
Mr Chitambo demanded that Ms Simukoko must leave office in accordance with article 2 of the ZUFIAW constitution and Industrial and Labour Relations Act number 8 of 2008.
Ruling in the matter has been set for Friday this week.
