Zimbabwe: Sixteen Babies Born On Christmas Day in Harare

AT least 18 babies were born on Christmas Day in two of Harare's hospitals. Of the total, 16 were born at Parirenyatwa hospital. "Sixteen babies were born on Christmas Day. "Nine of them being girls and the other seven were boys. Our first Christmas baby was born at 02:45am and it was a boy," said Ms Jane Dadzi, the hospital's public relations manager.

Ms Dadzi said the hospital recorded a set of triplets which were all girls.

The Avenues clinic recorded two deliveries, both girls.

Matron-in-charge Ruth Mundandi said the first baby arrived at 07:52 in the morning weighing 2,4 kilogrammes.

Efforts to get statistics from other hospitals were fruitless.

Last year, a total of 102 babies were born on Christmas Day at three Central Hospitals in Harare and Chitungwiza.
