Nigeria: Policeman, Woman Killed On the Street Near Jos

An anti-riot Policeman attached to the Special Task Force (STF) in Jos and a woman were on Wednesday night at Bachit village, near Jos, gunned down by unknown assailants.

Eyewitnesses from the area said the victims, who were killed separately were just walking down the streets on that fateful evening when they were pounced upon and murdered by the attackers, who immediately vanished away.

The witnesses said that the villagers who were initially alarmed first ran away, but later organised themselves to challenge the attackers who by then had gone away.

It was gathered that before the STF men could get to the scene of the event it was too late.

Efforts to get the Spokesman of the STF, Captain Salihu Ibrahim Mustapha, to comment on the incident failed as he could not be reached on phone. But the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Emmanuel Abuh, who obviously was not aware of the attack, said that he was going to confirm it and issue a detailed press statement.
