Pastor Mathew Obaze, a Nigerian cleric on pilgrimage in Israel, said there is nothing wrong in sponsoring people on pilgrimage as it enhances their spirituality and attitude toward their fellow countrymen. Obaze said this in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Jerusalem. "Sending people on pilgrimage is not a bad thing; the essence is to bring spiritual consciousness of the people; when people are spiritually conscious, they develop a new awareness and that affects how they reason in their own country. "It affects how they behave; their attitude toward one another. If you look at Israel, Israel is a secular state made up of other religions, but they live at peace," he said.
