Liberia: First Elected Female President of Korea Applauded

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of congratulations to the President -elect of the Republic of South Korea, Madam Park Geun-Hye, on her election as the first female President of that country.

President Johnson Sirleaf said it was with profound pleasure that she received the news of Madam Geun-Hye election as the first democratically elected female president of South Korea.

While recalling the moment of her own victory as the first elected female President of Liberia and Africa, President Sirleaf said "I appreciate the remarkable opportunity as well as the enormous challenge that now confront you."

President Sirleaf wished that the election of the new South Korean leader will mark another milestone for women leadership in the world and serve as another shining inspiration to women and girls around the world to work towards making meaningful contributions to the progress of their societies.

President Johnson Sirleaf noted that she was of the expectation that the cordial relations subsisting between Liberia and South Korea will receive new impetus with the election of Madam Geun-Hye, and looked forward to working with the newly-elected Korean leader for the mutual interest of their two nations and peoples.
