Johannesburg — Former president Nelson Mandela will continue to receive home-based medical care at his house in Houghton, the presidency said on Friday.

"I assume everything is going okay," said presidency spokesman Mac Maharaj, adding that doctors would inform him if there were any changes.

Mandela has been receiving high care at home after he was discharged from hospital on Wednesday.

On December 8, he was flown to a Pretoria hospital from his home in Qunu in the Eastern Cape and later diagnosed with a lung infection.

He also underwent gallstone surgery during his hospital stay.

On Thursday cops, German tourists and journalists were among those spotted outside Madiba's Johannesburg home.

Mandela has a history of lung problems, having suffered from tuberculosis towards the end of his 27-years spent in prison.

His recent hospital stay was his longest since he was released from prison over two decades ago.
