Kenya: Subsidies Solution to Food Shortage - Former Govt Spokesman

Government former spokesman Alfred Mutua has said subsidising farming will end the reliance on food from donors in Machakos.

He added that the Masaku county government should provide free tractors, seeds and fertilisers to farmers and buy the harvest to export to other counties.

"This system will solve food problems as well as create wealth among the majority of the peasant farmers," said the Machakos governor aspirant.

Mutua said he will adopt the system if elected because Malawi became self-sufficient in food production and exports the surplus after taking up the method. He was addressing rallies in Ndithini and Masinga markets during a four-day tour.
