Nairobi — Security was on Saturday beefed up in Nairobi's Mathare slums after 30 houses were burnt on Friday night in rival gang clashes.

According to Nairobi PPO Moses Ombati, the clash was caused by an attack earlier in the week where three people were killed.

He said one of the people killed was suspected to be a police informer.

Police have ruled out any political or tribal inclination and termed the skirmishes as retaliatory attacks.

No arrests had been made by Saturday morning but anti-riot police had been deployed to the area to restore sanity.
