Tunisia: Members of Democratic Caucus Demand Settlement of Sami Fehri's Situation

Tunis — Members of the Democratic Caucus at the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) solicited, on Saturday, Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali to intervene to find a settlement to the situation of private TV channel Ettounissia director Sami Fehri, in compliance with judicial decisions and the independence of magistracy.

Received by the Prime Minister, the democratic caucus members including Maya Jeribi, Issam Chebbi and Salma Mabrouk, expressed concern over the deterioration of the health of Sami Fehri, who has been on a hunger strike in protest against his detention, warning against "the dramatic turn that this case might take."

"The medical report established, on December 28, confirmed that Sami Fehri's health status is critical and risks to deteriorate further," they specified.

They also launched "a call to activists and Human rights advocates to intensify their actions and multiply the forms of pressure, so as to lift this injustice before it is too late."

The meeting was attended by the Justice and Interior Ministers.
