Tunisia: Woman Killed During Police Raid in Douar Hicher

Tunis — A woman was killed during a police raid, on Sunday at dawn, in Douar Hicher (Manouba governorate), the Interior Ministry reported.

The operation took place following the information that extremists are hiding firearms and munitions in their homes, the Ministry specified.

One of the suspects opened fire on police officers obliging them to fight back, the interior ministry explained, specifying that the wife of the suspect was fatally wounded during the fire exchange.

The suspect was also injured by gunshot. The arm and munitions in his possession were seized, the same source added.

Search in another house helped seize a Kalashnikov and munitions and their owner was arrested.

Three other wanted suspects involved in other cases were also arrested, the ministry pointed out.

Violent clashes had opposed at the end of last October and beginning of November security forces and Salafists in Douar Hicher, killing at least one person, wounding others and causing material damage.
