Tunisia: Foreign Minister's Expenses Submitted to Public Accountancy - Government

Tunis — The Prime Ministry reports in a clarification, on Saturday, that the expenses of Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem are submitted to public accountancy and the control structures are empowered to investigate on a possible abuse. This clarification is made following the information in media on the minister's stay in the Sheraton hotel in Tunis.

In a statement released Saturday, the Prime Ministry expressed "solidarity with the Foreign Minister and with all Government members in front of rumors, campaigns of denigration and baseless accusations."

All the published data and interpretations on this issue pledge the moral and professional responsibility of the concerned media, asserts the Prime Ministry adding that the parties mentioned have the right to initiate legal proceedings.

A blogger had published on social networks data with documents that she described authentic "testifying that Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem had stayed in the Sheraton hotel, on the Ministry's expenses, while his home is located near the Ministry. This information caused a controversy in media.
