Liberia: Winners' Was Established to Help Provide Employment - Chief Executive Officer

The Chief Executive Officer of Winners Incorporated of Liberia, Mr. Yacob Batshon, said Winners was primarily established to assist government in reducing the high rate of unemployment as well as to contribute towards the economic development growth of the country.

He said that the economic growth and employment should not be the sole responsibility of the government, but all well meaning Liberians and foreign investors.

Mr. Batshon made the statement recently at his Broad Street office in Monrovia when he briefed local journalists about the functions of Winners.

He said his establishment has provided employment for more Liberians and has enable them contribute their quota towards the reconstruction process of Liberia in the aftermath of the 14 years of civil war.

The Winners CEO then commended the Liberian Government for providing the conducive atmosphere for foreign investors which he said has encouraged more foreign investors to do business in the country.

He said Winners have branches in Europe, Africa and other parts of the world, but said they have decided to come to Liberia so that Liberians will participate in the game known as "They Play, You Win" which also can help promote sports.

He said his management has made immense contributions in the area of sports by donating football materials to Lone Star and other local clubs including cash donations.

Mr. Batshon said that in accordance with its social responsibility, they have made donations to the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) to encourage them to effectively carry out their functions.

He recounted that recently, Winners hosted a Christmas party for the children as their way of identifying with them during the celebration so that they will fell part of the society.

He further explained that plans have been finalized for Winners to expand its activities in rural areas to get the youth involved in the Winners' games, because according to him, Monrovia is not Liberia.

"Our immediate plan is Grand Bassa and Margibi Counties," the Winners CEO disclosed.
