Liberia: Immigration Officers to Carry Weapons

The Commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN) Cllr. Abla G. Williams has disclosed that efforts are underway to arm officers of the Bureau.

She said BIN has made request to relevant government institutions to enable officers of the Bureau to carry arms.

Commissioner Williams said the arming of the officers would enable them to effectively protect the country's borders.

The BIN Boss made the disclosure over the weekend during a tete-a-tete with journalists at BIN's head office in Monrovia.

Commissioner Williams said those officers who will be armed will get proper training to ensure that they perform their duty in conformity with the laws of Liberia.

Commissioner Williams disclosed that plans are also underway to locate the Bureau of Immigration to a bigger facility that would enable it to effectively carry out its statutory duty.

At the same time, the BIN boss disclosed that the Bureau is recruiting 250 persons to increase it manpower.
