Gambia: 14 Honoured in NBR

Nbr — A total of 14 people in the North Bank Region (NBR) were Saturday decorated with an Insignia Award by the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, at a ceremony held in Kerewan.

The awards, which were presented to the recipients by the governor of the region, Lamin Queen Jammeh, on behalf of President Jammeh, were in recognition of their outstanding contribution towards national duties.

The awardees are: Malick Samba and Isatou Jallow from Sabach Sanjal Upper Baddibou;Kebaringo Jammeh and Julli Jallow from Central Baddibou; Nyara Kanyi and Alhagie Njie from Lower Baddibou; Mansa Secka andTumbu Ceesay from Jokadou; Aj Haddy Gaye and Buba Sowe from Upper Nuimi; Alhaji K Saho and Haddy Bah from Lower Nuimi; and Alhaji Faye and Key Joof from Upper Nuimi.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Governor Queen Jammeh thanked the president for the gesture and described the awards as welcoming. He said this shows that whoever is willing to work with the president and his government and does something, no matter how small or big it is, if it is recognised, the person will be awarded.

"Therefore I am calling on the people of North Bank Region to continue to support the president and to see The Gambia as our country and work together. We should all bear in mind that developing this country is for the best interest of all," he added.

Ebrima Ansu Tamba Jammeh, the chief of Illiassa District, hailed President Jammeh for the trust and confidence bestowed on them and for awarding the people. He said the awards indicate that the Gambian leader has recognised the little service they rendered. He told the people to always remember that contributing to national development should be the obligation of all.

Chief Jammeh used the opportunity to remind the recipients that being awarded requires redoubling efforts. He also urged them to avoid betraying the trust and confidence bestowed on them by the president.

Sheriff Misba Hydara, the National Assembly member for Lower Nuimi, said the awards are a great honour to the people and the entire region. He thanked the president for recognising the contributions of the award recipients to the country's development.

Alhaji Lamin Ceesay, the chairman of the Kerewan Area Council, commended President Jammeh for the move and urged the people to continue to support the government of the day.

Mansa Secka, one of the awardees, expressed gratitude to the president and assured on behalf of all recipients their continued loyalty to the leadership.
