Kenya: 241 Seafarers, Fishermen Held Hostage

SOME 241 seafarers and fishermen, hijacked on diverse dates and years are still being held hostage on ships ashore Somalia, according to maritime officials.

Andrew Mwangura, Secretary General Seafarers Union of Kenya said those detained are nationals from the Philipines, North Korea, Denmark, Thailand, and other nationals.

He said it was good news that 22 crew members of the Panama flagged Ice berg 1 are free after being held for 1,000 days and are currently undergoing medical treatment before flying back home. He urged concerned stakeholders to hasten efforts to have them released.
