Gambia: Alleged Assailant in Court

A Farato resident, Tombong Kanyi, was recently arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates' Court charged with assault with intent to steal.

The charge sheet read in court stated that the accused, Tombong Kanyi, on 26 May 2012, at Farato Village, in the West Coast Region, assaulted one Mariama Jallow, by slapping her and stole from her the following items: one double SIM card phone marked Nokia valued at D1, 500 and cash amount of D300.

He denied the charge and was granted court bail of D5, 000 with two Gambian sureties.

The case was adjourned till 14 January 2013.
