Ethiopia: Light Railway Project Underway

Since the Chinese-based Chian Eryuan Engineering Group (CREEC) has been awarded the 37Km Addis Abeba light railway transit project in 2010, the residents of Addis have been experiencing the heat of the railway construction.

The construction of the Addis Abeba light railway transit resumed on September 30, 2012, after an interruption due to the rainy season. On the route stretching from Meskel Square to Kaliti, in front of St. Joseph School, engineers of CREEC are seen erecting a cylindrical re-bar structure up to 30m deep in the ground. It is expected to support the overpass for the South-North corridor that will connect Ras Birru Street to Piazza.
