AP constables in Nyahururu district got a rare treat from their superiors who cooked for them during New Year party the senior officers had thrown for their men at the Nyahururu DC's office at the weekend.
The district AP commandant Daniel Masaba said that the celebration would not be held during the appropriate dates because the officers had a role of maintaining security during the festive season.
The officers took up different tasks with Masaba was cooking ugali while his deputy Chelule Lokito fried the meat. The officer in charge of AP operations in the district Johnson Kariuki was in charge taking the goats to the slaughter as the staff officer on duty Fred Lemako was cooked rice. The constalbes helped with minor chores because they were guests.
Other guests included community policing officials from across the district, the regular police officers, prison wardens, religious leaders and street children. The chief guest was the Nyahururu OCS Charles Ogolla.
Masaba urged the officers to enhance cooperation with the public adding that it would be difficult to have a secure society without involvement of all.
Masaba recounted the stories of success achieved by the officers in the past one year where hundreds of stolen livestock have been recovered, criminals apprehended and crime rate in the region brought down significantly.
The officers operate in a difficult area where 42 police officers were killed by bandits last year. The achievements have culminated to promotion of 45 police officers to various ranks.
