Zambia: Serenje Sports Tourney On

SERENJE District youths will today battle it out for honours in the New-year's Day football and netball tournaments.

Central Province Minister Philip Kosamu, who will be the guest of honour, said the tournaments whose aim is to keep them away from engaging in bad vices have attracted participation from youths in Serenje.

Kosamu, who is also area Member of Parliament, said the tournament would be aimed at enticing youths to actively take part in various sports disciplines as a way of contributing talent to the various national teams.

"All is set for the end of the year tournament which is targeting youths of Serenje District and our aim is to bring these youths together so that they can participate in this tournament as a way of keeping them away from bad vices," he said.

"There is also need to spot talent among these youths by giving them this opportunity to showcase their skills and see how best they can be helped nurture their talent," the Minister added.

He said the winners for both netball and football competition would walk away with a trophy saying this should encourage other teams to work hard every year.
