Namibia: The Dogg Delighted With Kora Award Win

Namibia's musician 'The Dogg'

Kwaito artist Martin Morocky, popularly known as The Dogg, became the first Namibian to win a Kora Award for his song 'The Deception'.

The Dogg, who was nominated in the Best Southern African Male category, walked away with the award which comes with prize money of US25 000 (about N$200 000). The awards, which are nicknamed 'The African Grammys', took place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Sunday evening.

The Dogg, who was unable to attend the awards, said he was very happy to have won the award. "I feel great, this is the biggest award that I have won in my career and it is not just a win for me but for the whole of Namibia, because this is the first time a Namibian has won a Kora award." he said.

The Dogg will be celebrating his win with a performance in Nkurenkuru in the Kavango Region on Saturday, January 5.
