Zambia: Another Cab Driver Killed

Police have since apprehended two suspects.

A KABWE taxi driver has been brutally murdered and his body dumped in the bush near the Kabwe-Lusaka Road.

The driver, identified as Gift Tembo, went missing at the weekend and his body was discovered near Makombe area on Kabwe-Lusaka Road with deep cuts on his neck.

Police have since apprehended two suspects, who were reported to have booked the 28-year-old driver from Kabwe.

Two weeks ago, 20-year-old Matthew Chipili was gruesomely killed and his body dumped in Roma Township with his facial skin peeled off, left eye gouged out, and his gullet removed.

The assailants also went away with his tongue.

In the Kabwe incident, police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela confirmed the picking up of two suspects, whom she identified as Julius Nachinga, 32, of Lusaka's Old Kanyama Township and Elota Lupiya, 28, of John Chinena area in Kabwe.

Ms Kanjela said Mr Tembo of house number 2A 55 Katondo site and service in Kabwe was driving a Toyota Corolla registration number ACJ 1735 at the time he was murdered last weekend.

Mr Tembo sustained deep cuts on his neck and that a knife was used in killing him.

"The victim was allegedly murdered by the two persons but we want to say that the police will continue with investigations," she said.

Meanwhile, Ms Kanjela said one person died in Chililabombwe while six others sustained injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a road traffic accident on Monday around 16:00 hours along Chimfunshi Road at Kalubeni.

Ms Kanjela said the driver who was unidentified ran away after the accident.

She named the deceased as Chifonko Shila, 30, who died on the spot after she sustained a deep cut on her neck.

Violet Muleya, 30, of Kakoso East in Chililabombwe sustained a cut on her right arm and shoulder and three children, one aged three while two who are 10-years-old were injured in the accident.

"All the victims are admitted to Kakoso Government Clinic. Details of how the accident happened are not yet known," she said.

In Kapiri Mposhi, an unidentified man died on the spot after being hit by a motor vehicle.

She said the accident occurred on Monday at about 19:00 hours in Kabowa area South of Kapiri Mposhi along Great North Road.

She said a Toyota Hilux, registration number ALC 5627 belonging to Fedex in Lusaka, was being driven by Jastone Sinkala, aged 48 of ZingalumeRoad, Barlastone Park in Lusaka.

Ms Kanjela said the vehicle hit a male pedestrian who was crossing the road from East to West.

She said the driver has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and will appear in court soon.
