Egypt: Prime Minister Establishes ISDF Board

Prime Minister Hisham Qandil issued a decree on Tuesday to establish the board of the Informal Settlements Development Facility (ISDF) under the minister of local development.

The ISDF board will include as members the ministers of finance, insurance and social affairs, electricity and energy, housing and urban development and planning and international cooperation, according to a statement issued by the Local Development Ministry.

The members include as well the governors of Giza and Cairo, professor of ubran planning Abul-Fottoh Shalabi, Chairman of the 10th of Ramadan Investors Federation Moharam Helal, deputy head of Misr el-Kheir charity Niyazy Sallam and veteran artist Mohamed Sobhi of the Ma'an charity.

Under the decree, Khaled Abdel-Aziz Gabarti was appointed as executive director of the ISDF for a period on one year.

ISDF surveys informal settlements nationwide and proposes general policies for the development of unsafe areas and plans for improving slums.
