Gambian premier league champions Real de Banjul Sunday awarded past and present players of the clubs at its Gala Dinner and Awards Night held at the Penchami Hall of the Paradise Suites Hotel in Kololi.
The Gala Dinner amongst other things was meant to raise funds for the club that has existed over four decades in its quest to launch an assault of the 1.5 million dollar price in the 2013 CAF Champions League.
Amongst others who were certified by winners of the League and Super Cup competitions was President Jammeh for the "most generous sponsor" in the development of Gambian football. President Jammeh's awarded was received on his behalf by the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Alieu Kebba Jammeh.
SB Jarra was also given a certificate as the first ever President of Real de Banjul football club while Alhaji MM Gassama was also awarded as a player, vice president and honorary life president of the club and Bambo Fatty was also recognised for been the longest serving trainer in the history of the club.
Bai Malleh Wadda who is his days was one of the country's most prolific goalscorers and having won the treble with the club in the League, Cup and Super Cup competitions in the 1980s was also awarded. Current coach Alagie Sarr who was also a former player of the club was also awarded for guiding the team to the League and Super Cup competition this last season. Dodou Jaw was also given an award for being the only former player of the club who continues to render support to the team.
Several other former associates of Real de Banjul were awarded the post-humus award and were received on their bahalfs by their family members. which includes the late Alhaji MO Njie, late Sugi Sowe -a vice president of the coub in the late 60's- and Wuyeh Saine Faye who passed away serving Real amongst others.
In the active players' award, Modou Njie Sarr who is also the son of the current Real de Banjul Coach was also awarded with the leading goalscorer honour after his goals helped Real in achieving the title and he will be key again on their assault on both domestic and continental trophies.
The most discipline player award went to Buba Sanneh who also scored the games only goal as Real wrestled the traditional curtain raiser Super Cup trophy from the grasp of Gamtel the other weekend. Ousman Jallow formerly of Samger was given the club's young player of the year award.
