The exit of UDF from the Jubilee Alliance was occasioned by disagreement between Uhuru and Mudavadi over a pre-election pact that had stipulated that Kenyatta would step down from the presidential race in favour of Mudavadi. Kenyatta reneged on the agreement saying that he had been coerced into giving up his presidential ambition.
UDF's National Executive Council met in Nairobi this afternoon and mandated the chairman and the secretary to terminate the agreement. The statement by the party's communication director Mundia Muchiri further said that the party has scheduled its National Delegates Conference (NDC) on Friday January 4 where Mudavadi is expected to present himself for nomination as the party's presidential candidate.
Mudavadi had last week stated that he would be holding talks with New Ford Kenya's Eugene Wamalwa to chart a way in which to consolidate the Western Kenya vote. Eugene Wamalwa is expected to endorse Mudavadi for the presidency
