Kenya: Lari Residents Protest Theft of Cows, Donkeys

Lari residents yesterday and blocked the Nairobi-Nakuru highway protesting increased insecurity . The villagers of Gituamba walked for about three kilometres to the highway. They said many of their cows and donkeys have been stolen.

They said insecurity has increased during the festive season. Area councilor Alfred Wathiarara had rough time trying to calm the crowd. They said that more than 50 donkeys and cows have been stolen and slaughtered in two weeks.

The residents said despite them reporting to the police, their plight has not been addressed. They said a suspect was lynched in the area last week.

"I woke up to fine my donkeys stolen. I found them later slaughtered,"said Jane Wanjiku. The demonstration was disrupted by armed riot and administration police who lobbed teargas at the protesters.
